Christmas is best celebrated with our family. It has always been my favorite holiday. I love the colorful decorations and carols. I get goosebumps whenever I hear Jose Mari Chan’s iconic Christmas songs. The excitement and happiness that Christmas brings would often remind me of the day I got crowned Binibing Subangdaku 2016.
Receiving Christmas gifts makes me feel special and loved. Unwrapping gifts excite me! The harder to open the gift, the better! During Christmas, aside from gift-giving and merry-making, our family would also catch up with friends and relatives, especially our distant cousins. We would watch Christmas-themed movies and prepare Noche Buena together.
When my father stopped working because of health issues, I assumed the responsibility and become my family’s breadwinner. I started working in the BPO industry. My first Christmas as a BPO employee was quite tough. It was, by far, the loneliest Christmas I have ever experienced. I longed for my family and relatives in the entirety of my 9-hour shift in the office. That is why I am very grateful to my extended family in the office. Working during the holidays isn’t so lonely anymore because of my officemates.
If you think about it, Christmas is the time of giving and sharing. Working, especially during the holidays, for me, is one of the best ways to show our family that we love them and that we are willing to sacrifice for them.
